Please read this document in its entirety before running PATCH.exe. EEProm Patch Description: This patch fixes a problem that may have occurred while boards were calibrated at the factory. Boards shipped between July 1, 1999 and September 1, 1999 may not be able to restore their factory calibration when the "Restore Factory Calibration" option of the DSA Calibrate function is selected. This problem affects the PCI-4451, PCI-4452, NI-4551 for PCI and the NI-4552 for PCI. Background: All DSA boards are factory calibrated before shipping. The calibration constants generated by this factory calibration are stored in the factory section of the calibration eeprom. These constants are also stored in the user section of the calibration eeprom. When the user later performs an internal or external calibration, the calibration constants generated by this user calibration are stored in the user area of the calibration eeprom. The copy of the factory calibration constants stored in the user area of the calibration eeprom is therefore replaced by a new set of constants. Boards that shipped from the factory between July 1, 1999 and September 1, 1999 may not have factory calibration constants stored in the factory area of the calibration eeprom. How to Identify Affected Boards: 1. Run the Patch application. The program will indicate whether the patch is needed or not. Fixing Affected Boards: Run the Patch application to fix affected boards. One of three situations will occur: 1. No patch will be needed. No further action is required. 2. The patch will be needed and you calibrated the board since it was received from the factory. The program will copy calibration constants from the user area to the factory area of the calibration eeprom. The factory calibration will be restored and no further action is required. 3. The patch will be needed and you calibrated the board since it was received from the factory. The program will copy calibration constants from the user area to the factory area of the calibration eeprom. The factory calibration was lost the first time the board was calibrated after leaving the factory. Two additional situations may occur: A. Factory calibration is not of concern and no further action is required. B. Factory calibration is of concern.
