This file contains important information about the LabVIEW 8.0.1 Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) Module, including installation and upgrade issues, compatibility issues, and changes from the DSC Module 8.0. Supported Platforms

The DSC Module supports Windows 2000/XP. The DSC Module does not support Windows NT/Me/98/95/2003 Server. Refer to the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module Release and Upgrade Notes for a complete list of system requirements.

Installation Instructions

Complete the following steps to install the DSC Module.

Note You must install the LabVIEW 8.0.1 update before installing the DSC Module 8.0.1. Refer to the LabVIEW 8.0.1 Update page for instructions on installing the LabVIEW 8.0.1 update. Also refer to this KnowledgeBase document for additional information about the update.

Log in to the development computer as an administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.
Download the ni_lvdsc801.exe file from the DSC Module 8.0.1 Update page on the National Instruments Web site.
Double-click the file to open it.
Click the Unzip button to extract the files.
Click the OK button to launch the installer.
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Note The DSC Module 8.0.1 applies an update to Modbus I/O server support for the DSC Module and the LabVIEW Real-Time (RT) Module only if the Modbus component is already installed. If you add the Modbus component at a later date, run the DSC Module 8.0.1 update again to apply the Modbus component update.

Note The DSC Module 8.0.1 applies an update to NI Keyboard Filter Driver support for the DSC Module only if the Keyboard Filter component is already installed. If you add the Keyboard Filter component at a later date, run the DSC Module 8.0.1 update again to apply the Keyboard Filter component update.

Installing the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module Silently

You can control programmatically which features in the DSC Module distribution to enable or disable for installation. You therefore can install a subset of the DSC Module distribution silently. Refer to the silent_install.txt file in the Bin directory on the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module CD for more information about installing the DSC Module silently and about feature selection automation.

Changes from the DSC Module 8.0

The DSC Module 8.0.1 fixes the following known issues from the DSC Module 8.0:

When you configure a Modbus Serial I/O server with a Transmission Mode of ASCII, the server does not send or receive ASCII data.
A custom On Input Change I/O server crashes if you provide an invalid configuration.
The DSC Module 7.1 migration utility incorrectly migrates the Update Rate input of the Configure OPC Client Instance dialog box.
The DSC Module 7.1 migration utility incorrectly migrates OPC tags containing quotations marks.
The DSC Module 7.1 migration utility does not bind I/O servers and shared variables properly.
The NI Keyboard Filter driver component remains inactive when enabled.
The DataSet Marking I/O Server Configuration dialog box logs the Description and Equipment Name attributes in an incorrect format.

The DSC Module 8.0.1 update also improves OPC Client I/O Server connectability to third-party OPC 2.0 servers.
